When asked to name a credible economist who backed her idea to use a windfall profit tax against oil companies to fund the suspension of a tax on gasoline, Clinton responded:
"I'm not going to put my lot in with economists," she said on the "This Week" town hall. Clinton added that the tax holiday would work "if we actually did it right."
She continued the line of attack, criticizing more generally
"This mindset where elite opinion is always on the side of doing things that really disadvantage the vast majority of Americans."
But at least one member of the town hall was unconvinced. When given the chance to ask a question, an anonymous woman told the candidate:
"Call me crazy but I listen to economists because they know what they're talking about."
[Love that woman].
Clinton's proposal has met widespread resistance from policy analysts of all political persuasions.
If you have recommended this or will, thanks!
I'm fairly new to the political scene / amateur punditry, but the sheer inconsideration, pandering, dishonesty JUST about this policy proposal is mind blowing. Maybe it is politically incorrect to say this, but it doesn't surprise me Hillary's non-College educated voters can't understand uhm, facts.
As most of us now, and as Barack has just said on MTP this plan just doesn't work in any way.
- The Windfall Profits according to Hillary will pay for this...but she already promised that it would pay one of her other proposals.
- As if Bush would OK this proposal, and as if the other Democrats would.
- If it did somehow save money, it would only be $20-$30.
- It defeats the idea of Green energy, cars, and awareness in general.
- The Oil companies' profits will skyrocket, and they will probably jack up the price of Oil anyway -- supply & demand.
We need to invest in Green energy, Green cars, and Green public transportation!
From Michael Bloomberg to Mark Udall to Barack Obama to anyone with "elite" opinions are against this. Once you get to the point where the analysts and host on Hardball discussing about how poor this proposal is -- that's when you know it's not as elite as you think. And yet they spend 30-40 minutes of a one hour show on Rev. Wright (a non-issue), 10 minutes on the Gas Tax "Holiday", 5 minutes on obliterating Iran, and 5 minutes on John McClinton. When this world ends in 2012 (?) - - i'm going to find CNN & MSNBC and especially Dan Abrams and beat them senseless with my remote controller.
