Yesterday, an infuriating diary by the normally very very shrewd and intelligent Matt S. quoted Jerome Armstrong as saying Gallup tracking polls movement showed Obama was "tanking" because of his "poll-driven" denunciation of Obama.
Matt, who is angry at Obama for appearing on Fox (fair enough as I agree), proceeded to develop a much smarter and nuanced critique of Obama that basically posited that Obama should have stayed his ground and refused to "cave in" to Republican attacks on Wright.
Now I understand his point about our Democratic politicans caving in to often to right-wing frame but in this case, it is not because he was attacked by conservatives and the MSM on Wright that he should not have denounced Wright because, well, what Wright said needed to be denounced.
In any case ...
Point is moot.
Obama is back up 49-45 in today's Gallup poll (back to where we were before PA).
Obama is back to a tie on Rasmussen (he was up before Wright and then starting going down a few points as the obsessive coverage unfolded and is now climbing back up).
So .. well ... so much for tanking. And once again the punditry who believes their own obsessive coverage of an issue means the end for a candidate needs to learn that like with Tuzla, like with Wright 1, like with Bittergate, numbers do drop when they talk and talk and talk about an embarrassing issue but none of this is a mortal wound or even a serious one.
Because PEOPLE DONT CARE !
