Scott Ritter hasn't been wrong about too many things regarding U.S. intentions in the Middle East. He was one of the few who called "bullsh*t" on Bushco's claims of WMD's in Iraq. A former Marine and former Republican, he's not exactly a partisan player, he seems to be a guy who just doesn't like being lied to. And now he's telling us there's a "virtual guarantee" of a strike against Iran:
Ritter: US will target Iran next
We take a look at the military buildup, we take a look at the rhetoric, we take a look at the diplomatic posturing, and I would say that it’s a virtual guarantee that there will be a limited aerial strike against Iran in the not-so-near future—or not-so-distant future, that focuses on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Command. And if this situation spins further out of control, you would see these aerial strikes expanding to include Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and some significant command and control targets.
I keep harping on this issue because, well, it seems pretty damned obvious that the script has been written, and the players are half-heartedly reciting their lines for the build-up to what is probably going to be an October Surprise type of event that Bushco will create, and use, to beat whoever the Dem nominee is (and I don't think they much care who it is). I've written several diaries on it at this point, but it seems every day I uncover more screaming hair-on-fire evidence that Bushco is definitely gonna go through with this.
Tonight, it was not just Scott Ritter, but our lovely CIA director Michael Hayden. Check out what that nut-job had to say:
MANHATTAN, Kan. — CIA Director Michael Hayden said Wednesday that Iranian policy, at the highest government level, is to help kill Americans in Iraq, the boldest pronouncement of Iranian involvement by a U.S. official to date.
Hayden made the statement in response to a student question while delivering the Landon Lecture at Kansas State University.
"It is my opinion, it is the policy of the Iranian government, approved to highest level of that government, to facilitate the killing of Americans in Iraq," Hayden said. "Just make sure there's clarity on that."
In recent weeks, U.S. officials have ratcheted up their complaints that Iran is increasing its efforts to supply weapons and training to militants in Iraq.
Military commanders in Baghdad are expected to roll out evidence of that support soon, including date stamps on newly found weapons caches showing that recently made Iranian weapons are flowing into Iraq at a steadily increasing rate.
Ah yes, the "evidence". But what about that evidence, really? Well guess who says they don't actually have any hard evidence like that? The Iraqi government, that's who:
Iraq says no hard evidence of Iranian support for militia
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraq said on Sunday it has no evidence that Iran was supplying militias engaged in fierce street fighting with security forces in Baghdad.
Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said there was no "hard evidence" of involvement by the neighbouring Shiite government of Iran in backing Shiite militiamen in the embattled country.
Hmm, sounds like somebody is lying! Gosh, wonder who it could be?
And for those who missed it, last night I wrote about this:
United States is drawing up plans to strike on Iranian insurgency camp
The US military is drawing up plans for a "surgical strike" against an insurgent training camp inside Iran if Republican Guards continue with attempts to destabilise Iraq, western intelligence sources said last week. One source said the Americans were growing increasingly angry at the involvement of the Guards’ special-operations Quds force inside Iraq, training Shi’ite militias and smuggling weapons into the country.
I'm not gonna put too much effort into this diary, because nobody really seems to care about this sort of thing here at Daiylkos. A few people, but not enough to make it worth putting that much work into.
Just trying to keep people informed, doing my part, ya know? I really think the only way to stop these idiots from attacking Iran is to constantly call them out on it before they do it.
Two other diaries that contain a ton of support that Bushco wants to attack Iran:
