Pres. Bush has been ridiculed quite a bit for his "Mission
Accomplished" moment relating to the Iraq War, and rightly so.
In my opinion, he failed to comprehend the difference between
winning a battle and winning a war.
Now, some Democrats are encouraging a move toward what may be
their own "Mission Accomplished" moment -- a call for a premature
ending of the presidential nomination process and unofficially
nominating Obama. That is, the Superdelegates are being
encouraged to unofficially nominate Obama before the Democratic
National Convention even convenes.
For the Democrats supporting Obama, winning a battle against
Hillary Clinton is nowhere close to winning the war against
John McCain. Why should the choice of the best warrior against John McCain be prematurely determined? I guess, so that some folks can early proclaim "Mission Accomplished".
In retrospect, if the recent, and probably to be recurring,
issues of Rev. Wright and Obama's "bitter" and "cling to faith"
remarks had occurred prior to the Iowa caucuses, where would
Obama be today? Probably, he would be stuck at a much lower
level of progress than his is now, but towards which he seems to
be regressing lately, and probably in the future.
I hope the Superdelegates don't give up their rights and duties
at the Democratic National Convention, in accordance with
Democratic Party rules, to provide their own premature "Mission
Accomplished" moment.
