This has been doing the rounds in some non-political threads over the last week. I thought it would be a good time to show it to a wider audience because it means one thing...
...if Barack Obama's image is being used to sell cars to Texans, the Republicans have a bigger problem in November than they thought.
More, below the fold...
It's not just the actor that looks like Obama. It's Ron Butler, by the way: he has played parts in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", "Without A trace" and "Crossing Jordan". Oh, and he played Obama on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" once.
It's also the words. And even the logo. Spot the difference between these two beauts.
They're using Barack Obama to sell cars. In Republican heartland. If this doesn't tell you how much a problem John McCain has, I don't know what does.
It's all about the economy, obviously. People can't maintain those pick-up trucks just to do the groceries. Yes, women drive them in Texas too. Not so much now, with gas being at $4 a gallon. But they have their own bumper stickers and everything...
This is what the election will be about. The economy. I was happy to see Barack was making it issue #1 yesterday, mentioning that McCain wants to give tax breaks to the oil companies after their record profits:
...when millions of Americans can’t afford their medical bills or their tuition bills, when we’re paying more than $4 a gallon for gas, the man who rails against government spending wants to spend $1.2 billion on a tax break for Exxon Mobil. That isn’t just irresponsible. It’s outrageous.
He's also hitting on something which is an election winner: tying the hurt that people are feeling in the wallet with all the messes made by the Republican Party. Keith Olbermann mentioned one last night on Countdown. One month before Cheney and his oil cohorts Bush decided to push into Iraq, Rupert Murdoch said this:
The greatest thing to come out of [invading Iraq] for the world economy ... would be $20 a barrel for oil.
Oil was under $40 a barrel when the boss of Fox News said that. It's nearly $140 a barrel now.
The Republicans promised cheap oil from the Middle East. Cheap oil means goods get to the stores cheaper. So prices go down. That was a LIE.
The Republicans messed up the Middle East and the price went up. Now we're losing money over there, which comes out of our pocket eventually. But they're too chicken to pay for it, too. They want to make someone else pay for it so they can say "they raised taxes." That's weak. They made the mess and they won't put it right.
So ask your neighbors these questions: How much extra are you paying for gas every month? How much extra for groceries? You can thank the Republicans for that. They put Americans in harm's way, and now it's costing more than any tax increase. They'll promise you a tax break on gas that would save you $30 all summer, but you're paying $60 more every time you fill up the tank.
And the owners of the oil companies? The Arabs that George Bush dances with, and the people that used to work for Dick Cheney? They're getting your money. They have record profits. And what do you have?
It's time for Change. It's time for the Democrats to make things right.
