Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) said back in February that he would decline to serve as Vice President. I think he should reconsider.
Sen. Reed is the wildly popular senior senator from Rhode Island, and he would make a superb Vice Presidential nominee. As far back as February, Sen. Reed was being talked up as a potential veep for Sen. Obama but he scotched those rumours at the end of February when he stated that he would decline a position on the ticket (Sen. Reed is running for re-election to the Senate this year).
Who is Jack Reed? If I had to put it in ten words or less, I'd say he is a pro-choice, Catholic, left-wing, anti-war military man. Like Obama, Jack Reed has serious academic chops (USMA, Kennedy School, Harvard Law). He has serious military chops too (he was an Army Ranger and a paratrooper in the legendary 82nd Airborne).
I took the liberty of excerpting one of Sen. Reed's most important positions (thanks to ontheissues.org)
Voted NO on authorizing use of military force against Iraq. (Oct 2002)
Sen. Reed also gets great ratings from the agencies and organizations close to the heart of the Democratic cause. The CAF, LCV, NAACP, APHA, SANE, AFL-CIO, HRC, CTJ, and NARAL all rate him very highly.
Sen. Reed, please reconsider your position on the Vice Presidency. I think you're a terrific candidate.
