"A classic example of someone whose voting record is extreme right, yet... pretends to be a moderate." These are the words of Florida Rep. Wasserman Schultz, on a conference call today.
And Michigan Gov. Granholm adds: McCain’s platform is "antithetical to the causes that Sen. Clinton and many women have fought for."
John McCain is the guy who said "How do we beat the b*tch [Hillary Clinton]" was an "excellent question". John McCain is the guy who maintains friends and fundraisers who think that women should just lie back and enjoy being raped. He's the same guy who indirectly attacked the Clinton presidency by going after Eric Holder's role in the pardon of Mark Rich - just a clue of the kind of tired attacks they were prepping against Hillary Clinton, had she won the nomination.
John McCain's deceit is not surprising to anyone familiar with the story of the wife he callously left behind or how the Admiral's son violated the code of conduct by "aiding the enemy", but got away with it. Vietnam veterans testify.
What's surprising is for any self-respecting supporter of Hillary Clinton to wish or work for the success of a party that ceaselessly attacked her for 30 years. That's what Clinton delegate, Debra Bartoshevich plans to do. Ms. Bartoshevich says Clinton was treated unfairly by the Democratic Party, so she's defecting to the GOP. At this point, I'm not even sure whether to laugh or cry. One of the biggest challenges Sen. Clinton faced in the primary - perceived negatives and her image - are not the fault of the Democratic Party or African-Americans who stood by her when there was no benefit for doing so. They're solely the fault of the GOP - the Party that Debra Bartoshevich wants to help.
There's no such thing as Hillary Clinton supporters for McCain - just anybody but Obama voters against Obama. For as I said, no true Clinton supporter would help the Party that sought the destruction of the Clintons or consider voting for a candidate whose platform is "antithetical to the causes that Sen. Clinton and many women have fought for". Which begs the question: are people voting for the candidate who best represents the issues they care about the most or are they voting for the issues represented by the candidate they prefer, however backward and disastrous their policies are?
No Obama supporter, even one as ardent as myself, ought to discount the possibility of Hillary Clinton as veep. And folks better get used to the fact that it's very likely that she would be on the "Dream Ticket". If/when that happens, the question is: will the likes of Debra Bartoshevich, HillaryIs44 and hcsfjm turn around and join Obama in calling McCain, "Bush the 3rd" or will they join the right-wing conspiracy to fight Hillary Clinton?
If I could, I would give anything to have Barack Obama bluff tommorrow that Hillary Clinton would be his running mate. Oh, the barrage of attacks from John McCain, the recycling of tired attacks against the Clintons ... oh, I would give anything to see the look on the faces of the likes of Debra Bartoshevich. Even if to prove that the lovefest is about one thing and one thing alone - the Republican Party will do anything to win. And once they get what they want, they're not going to give a damn about Clinton or her supporters.
