George W. Bush has enlisted British special forces to attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden in a last ditch effort to salvage some kind of legacy for his presidency.
Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. "If he [Bush] can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can claim to have left the world a safer place," said a US intelligence source.
So, capturing Osama Bin Laden is now a priority. It seems that President Bush really does have America's best interest in mind after all. Thank you for helping to make our country a safer place, sir, for our sake and not for your own selfish legacy.
Not.
It was six years and three months ago that, answering a reporter's question about the hunt for the mastermind behind the worst terrorist attack on our country that murdered nearly 3,000 of our fellow countrymen, President Bush declared: "You know, I just don't spend that much time on him.. ..to be honest with you."
The obvious question: why is capturing Bin Laden NOW a priority?
The regrettable answer is: because he needs a quick-fix, something that can improve his approval ratings in a short time period so that his dismal presidency is remembered with some shred of accomplishment.
Bush doesn't have America's best interests in mind. He serves his own selfish interests again and again. Worst of all, he does so under the veil of doing it for our safety.
Downright deplorable.
