Hot on the heels of last week's edition of The Tuesday Diversion, which asked about funniest Monty Python bits, let's ask about the worst movies ever made.
Anna Karenina begins "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way," and perhaps movies are like that. Last week there was much agreement on funny Python bits. I suspect, however, that there are as many choices of worst movies ever made as there are people doing the choosing of the worst movies ever made.
While conventional wisdom holds that Plan 9 From Outer Space wears the mantle of worst movie ever made, it can be enjoyed, if need be, and for short periods of time, as a sort of campy homage to badly made movies.
And, yes, Showgirls is a terrible movie, but I'll admit to having watched it. Once. For educational purposes, of course. I can't for the life of me, however, figure out how anyone could sit through Battlefield Earth. It's probably not even absurdly funny in an unintentionally hilarious way. As is, say, the Bush Administration.
So, anyway, which movies do you think are the worst movies ever made? And for extra credit, what was the last terrible movie you saw?
