I was reading the Huffington Post this morning, and saw an article that admittedly shook me a little bit.
Seth Colter Walls posted this piece, titled "McCain's Attack On Obama Gets Standing Ovation At AIPAC". In it, he recounts how John McCain's full-bore attack on Barack Obama got cheers and a convention-wide standing ovation.
Am I right to be a bit worried by this?
Perhaps some of the Jewish kossacks here can enlighten me a bit, but I had always been under the impression that Americans of Jewish faith were one of the more reliably Democratic constituencies in the country. Is this just an unrepresentative audience of more radical right-wing sympathizers, or does it reflect a real problem for Obama among the Jewish community in the general election?
Are Jewish voters really going to vote for McCain over ludicrous fear-stoking comments like this:
After noting the conference's non-partisan spirit, Liz Cheney went ahead and cast her response in partisan terms, telling the assembled group that the outcome of this fall's election -- and whether the next president will follow the Bush administration's example in fighting the war on terror -- will necessarily have a large impact on where Israel finds itself this time next year.
Or not? Let me know what you think...
