Calitics.com has "huge news" out of CA-04, where new poll numbers show Fighting Dem Charlie Brown has got a big surprise waiting for the winner of tomorrow's Republican primary fight between Tom McClintock and Doug Ose. Those two have poured $4 million in the hope of strolling into the general election in what was traditionally a Republican district - But no more!
Poll results below, along with news on the campaign's Saturday "Day of Action" and plus a plea for support for this great candidate....
1. Poll
First the big news: New poll numbers, straight from the Charlie Brown press release:
The survey of 400 likely General Election voters was conducted by Pete Brodnitz of the BenensonStrategy Group on May 14th and 15th. The margin of error was +/- 4.9%.
Despite a $4 million advertising blitz by the GOP frontrunners, the poll shows Brown leading Ose38% to 34%, and leading McClintock 42% to 40%.
The survey also showed a generic ballot between the Democratic and Republican candidates forCongress tied at 43%, with self identification of voters moving sharply away from the often citedvoter registration statistics of the district.
But there's bigger news here in this supposedly "red Calfornia" district, where McClintock and Ose think they can stroll to a November victory by playing the old game of repeating over and over the words "conservative," "Reagan," and "my opponent's a liberal." Here it is:
Despite a 48% to 31% GOP party registration advantage, the major parties are almost at parity in terms of the number of voters who identify themselves as Democrats or Republicans. The GOP advantage on party self-identification is now 2%, which is down from 15% in August of 2006.
In general, do you consider yourself a strong Democrat, a weak Democrat, a strong Republican, a weak Republican or an Independent?
August 06 May 08
Democrat 27 35
Republican 42 37
Independent 31 28
2. Day of Action
This past weekend, the Charlie Brown campaign organized their second Day of Action, mobilizing volunteers to hit the phones, knock on doors, and be a part of a movement for change in Northern California. Members of the community were energized and committed to making a different on behalf of Charlie and CA-04. A couple pics:
3. Send General Wes Clark to Visit CA-04
That's why this candidate and this district are perfect for today's last day of voting for the Democrats Work / Serve with the General contest --sending General Wes Clark to one Congressional District to participate in a community service project. There are five candidates left, all plenty worthy, but Charlie Brown and CA-04 are uniquely suited for this contest. Charlie's campaign is about results, about battle-tested leadership, and about putting action in front of political rhertoric and partisan bickering.
Please cast a vote for Charlie here.
