Wow
How do you discuss the recent Supreme Court ruling on Habeas Corpus with a person who gets the majority of their information from Fox news and Rush Limbaugh.
I have a fellow worker in our department who thinks that the supreme court has made the biggest mistake in the history of the United States by ruling against the Bush administration concerning Habeas Corpus.
His argument is screw the world. We should be able to hold any terrorist that we want for how long we want and no one should care. I tried to explain to him that some of the detainees are not terrorists but were caught up in mass sweeps or even turned in for bounty money. His response was so what they are guilty by association.
He feels that by giving them a hearing U.S. soldiers will be held accountable for civil charges. That they are not on U.S. soil so they have not rights. He strongly believes that Fox news is fair and balanced and that the reason that the liberals do not like Rush is that he tells the truth and liberals cannot handle the truth.
What I am asking the good people of this blog is this.
- How do you argue this?
- Give me some points of facts to counter his arguments.
- Or should I even give a damn.
Thank you
