Forgive me if others have written about this, but it stuck out like a sore thumb when I read the roll call for the FISA vote. For the record, I don't live in Kansas, didn't donate to or volunteer for her campaign, or otherwise have much to do with Ms. Boyda. But Representative Boyda has been held up like a poster child for how it is politically savvy for Democrats in conservative districts to oppose retroactive immunity. And yet when the rubber met the road, she caved.
More on the flip...
Everyone, and I mean but everyone, in the lefty blogosphere linked to Ms. Boyda's statement opposing immunity for the Telecoms. And yet, there is her name, in black and white in the YEA column.
I will never back down, will never give up, will always carry on the struggle, but damn if it isn't a punch in the gut to have a member of Congress who has been celebrated so heavily for taking a principled stand in defense of the Constitution. She has single-handedly embarrassed every single blogger who pointed to her as a profile in courage. Instead, she became a profile in cowardice.
As with all the craven Democrats and Republicans who supported Telecom amnesty, there must be political consequences. Ms. Boyda is no exception. But kicking her out of office (and she should be for her betrayal on this fundamental issue) will be one of the truly painful ones.
More Democrats, and BETTER Democrats.
