For the most part, we have chosen to support a man for President, the most difficult job in the world, with enthusiasm and passion through a very difficult primary campaign. Senator Obama is a man of exceptional intellect and political instincts. He put together a team of professionals and a plan to bring down the Clinton machine -- and he won. His next job is to get elected. Why would we question his judgement now?
I have been reading what I can about the new FISA law that is being passed by Congress. People whose opinions I respect seem to think it's not all bad. Personally, I HATE the idea of being spied on by my government. I think the Bush administration has arrogantly and deliberately disregarded the Constitution and all it represents. I only hope we survive until January. Having said that...
I have trusted in Senator Obama to bring us this far together. I trust that he knows more than I do about a lot of things going on in the world. I trust he knows what he is doing. I trust he will make the right decision about his vice presidential candidate and that when he is our next President, that he will govern wisely and effectively. That doesn't mean I will always agree with his decisions -- nor does it mean that I will like his decisions. I do trust him to surround himself with the very best advisors and a wide variety of opinions so that he has the information he needs to make the best decisions he can in our best interests. What more can we ask of a President? Have we become so cynical and angry and bitter after eight years of Bush that we no longer believe that there is good or even compentence in the world?
This man will inherit eight years of bad things and bad decisions that have been done to us and in our name at home and around the world and not only will he have to undo what can be undone, he will also need to guide us through the world we live in at the same time and make any number of tough decisions about situations that we can't even imagine. I don't expect him to be perfect. I just expect him to be the very best that he can be. I think that will be enough.
