Since day one, Pelosi has held that impeachment is off the table, but is that what she REALLY means? I think not! Follow me below the fold to find out more.
I don't think that Pelosi really cares if Bush and/or Cheney are impeached or impeached and removed from office. I think what she REALLY wants to prevent is an impeachment INVESITGATION. Why?
Any information requested by Congress relevant to an impeachment investigation is not subject to executive priviledge. That means that we would quickly attain most of the information that the Democratic Congress has supposedly been seeking through subpoenas and inadequate contempt citations. Why would Pelosi want to actively prevent the whole truth from coming out? Because she doesn't want the extent to which congressional Democrats have supported Bush policies to come to light before the election. What is the basis for this belief on my part?
There is a PATTERN of behvaior on the part of congressional Democrats which cannot be explained in any other way:
- Waxman refuses to initiate an investigation into the serious allegations put forth by Sibel Edmonds. He gives no reason for this. No other Democratic member of Congress has sought to initiate such an investigation either. Edmonds has explicitly stated that "high profile House Democrats" participated in the illegal and treasonous activities which she alleges.
- Rockefeller, a Democrat, is the point man for telecom immunity. Why would a Democrat want to prevent the whole truth from becoming public by precluding the presentation of evidence in a public court? If any Democrats were involved, that would come out in the course such a trial.
- Conyers, who beat the impeachment drum longer and louder than any other congressional Democrat while Democrats were the minority, made an about face as soon as Democrats became the majority. In fact, he is now the one person in Congress who is preventing a vote to initiate an impeachment INVESTIGATION from coming to the floor!
- Congressional Democrats dragged their feet with regards to issuing subpoenas.
- Congressional Democrats dragged their feet with regard to implementing contempt citations.
- When congressional Democrats finally did issue a contempt citation, they studiouly avoided issuing a citation for inherent contempt, the only type of contempt which would have allowed for immediate and decisive action.
- Conyer's committee has now issued a second subpoena to Karl Rove, the first having been issued a year ago. Conyers stated that Rove needed to agree to appear within two weeks of the most recent subpoena or he would be found in contempt. Rove has made public statements that he will not appear. Conyers has done nothing.
What we see is a very clear pattern, on the part of congressional Democrats, of doing everything possible to actively prevent the whole truth from becoming known. So many instances of action and inaction, all pointing in the same direction, cannot be accidental. These actions and inactions are deliberate and purposeful. The statute of limitations clock is running out for BOTH Republicans AND Democrats!
