As a lifetime Los Angeles Lakers fan I would like to make the case that the Lakers are World Champions for 2008! By virtue of their 14-7 record in the playoffs (.667 winning percentage) which was 1/2 game better than Boston's 16-10 (.615).
Also, The Lakers won most of their games in a state that has 55 electoral votes (California) while also taking victories in swing state Colorado and even a game in Texas and Utah. Boston won most of their games in a state having only 12 electoral votes.
This is how we get there:
The Lakers defeated The Nuggets, Jazz and Spurs 4-0, 4-2 and 4-1 (and lost onle one series 4-2 to Boston)
The Celtics defeated the Hawks, Cavs and Pistons 4-3, 4-3 and 4-2 (before winning one final series 4-2 against L.A.)
Congratulations Lakers!
