Hey ladies and gentlemen. This is going to be a short and frankly non-substantial diary for you all. What's the point in even making a diary of something substantial like I've been wanting to on topics that matter to me? They're all going to be hidden by the vast multitude of diaries that in one way or another are about FISA, and only 1/50 of them will even say something new, different, or interesting.
Yup, there you go. I said it: the FISA thing has basically swept like a virus and made this place near intolerable at points. Sure it's getting better now, better than it was last weekend, but still bad enough to where I feel like I can't talk about something else.
Yeah let's hear it: let's hear how important the FISA topic is, yet offer nothing new of substance to add to the debate. Someone please tell me how reading the 50th diary about FISA saying "shame on you Obama" or "That's it, I'm not going to vote this November" adds anything except pissing off those of us who--just like you--are not happy with the thing at all but--unlike you--realize that [gasp] there are OTHER THINGS to talk about, other maybe even more IMPORTANT issues to talk about. Say how about the economy collapsing, or the Muslim smears that are going around? Hmm, I hear reports that Bush may be looking to fight Iran pretty soon and Israel saying they'll bomb them if we refuse to. How about them gays getting married in California?
I know! I can't believe it neither, that there are actually other very important and relevant topics to discuss here. I'm just as shocked as you are! Oh wait, how silly of me to think that FISA isn't the only thing we should discuss ad nauseum. So let me guess, because I think that the FISA bill isn't the end of the world--primarily because the 4th amendment was dead long ago by other bills and I see this as mostly a red herring over the immunity issue--and that there are other topics that hit more close to home to most people I must not care about our civil liberties and am therefore a GOP appeaser, right?
Well if that's what you all think, then whatever. Call me when the whole thing blows over because I'm severely cutting my time here (sorry Kos, no ad dollars from me for a while) until the Senate finally votes on the frigging bill and just gets it over with.
Until then, this is what I propose: since there's quite a number of you out there who insist on writing a FISA diary a day--either to call out to Congress to not vote for it, same but for Obama specifically, or to bitch and whine that you're not going to vote/donate/volunteer/whatever, without actually adding something new to the discussion--to the point where you pretty much block any attempt at discussing something else (to the point of attacking us), let's agree on a compromise. You post all your "open letters" (as if the intended recipients are going to read it...), rants, whatever that is FISA related or Obama related with regards to your disillusionment, right here. Feel free to take up as much space as you need. That way, you get to rant all that you want, while leaving the recent diary lists for people that actually want to contribute something new, interesting, and original.
(And if I may make an optional request, I suggest recommending this diary so that people who come here throughout the day will see it when they log on and maybe get the hint to put their stuff here instead of making another carbon copy diary that just takes away from those that actually put work into something different. You don't have to, but if you think my idea has merit, go for it. Not that I want this of all my diaries to be rec'd but at this point I hardly care anymore; and with that I refuse to post anything of substance myself until I can actually get it on the list for more than two minutes without being kicked off by the same shit different diarist ad infinitum).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P.S.
Anyone else who doesn't have such a rant to post, feel free to make up a snark/fake rant of your own to fan the flames or for your own fun, or talk about anything else you want (consider this an open thread). Now if you'll all excuse me, I need to go do something else. I'll probably be back later at night for CityLightsLover's Countdown diary and to check the rec list and front page but for my sanity's sake that's almost all I'm going to check. Sorry if this is one of those...I forget the acronym but it starts with a G. Not my intent, I'm not leaving; just simply irritated that if I talk of something other than FISA I must therefore hate freedom and feeling like I'm wasting my time trying to be substantial when such diaries take up all the space. Not going away, just taking a few more breaths of fresh air until I can breathe here again.
