If you'd told me a month ago that I'd be giving Hillary Clinton anything besides a piece of my mind (and there's precious little of that left), I would have spewed invective that would make a sailor blush. But today, I proudly sent her money, and I came here to crow about it and urge other kossacks to do the same.
I'd been thinking about doing it for a while, but today her Unity mass mailing arrived, and its postscript was the impetus:
P.S. So many of you have reached out to help us retire our campaign debt -- I'm so grateful for your support. If you haven't, I hope you'll consider making a contribution today to help me as I continue standing up for the values we share.
I've never been a Hillary Clinton supporter. Even when I took the pledge, I'd say "Yes, if she's the nominee I will vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton" through teeth so clenched the words were barely audible. She has my email address because of one communication. When she asked me (and all my fellow Democrats) what to do when she'd clearly lost but couldn't find the words to concede, I told her.
I've been a proponent of the Obama campaign paying her outstanding bills, and I've made arguments like that here, saying, "If Obama can buy time on Sinclair television stations, who are actually worse than Fox, we can pay off HRC." The response from most around here told me that it would (to borrow the words of McSame) have "psychological" consequences. "I didn't give to Obama to have the money go to that..." (you can add the appropriate expletives).
So we need to find another way to heal this party, and one way to do that is to reward HRCs good behavior through independent personal actions the way we would want her supporters to reward ours if this had come out the way the pundits predicted. One of the hallmarks of this new kind of campaign is that we're all doing stuff that we know needs done before we're asked. We'll win in November that way, and will redeem this country by continuing to do that under President Barack Obama.
She did what we asked her to do, and she's proven she's a good Democrat and a woman of real class. I know her campaign's net infrastructure is almost as good as ours is, so I know her campaign knows what I asked of her. Actually, I demanded. I trust they'll know that I thanked her the way she now needs to be thanked most.
UPDATE: This link is suggested by (h/t) DemocratToTheEnd in the comments as a way to suggest a donation made as a good will gesture from Obama supporters.
UPDATE v2: Another way to signify it (also from the comments) is to give an amount that MOD 10 is $1.07 for the 107 votes each got in Unity. ($11.07, $21.07 etc)
