This previous week has been an eye-opener for me. This is my first election, being a week late for John Kerry's campaign against Bush. But even though this is my first election, I'm not surprised at Obama's move to the center as much as I am surprised by the behavior of the netroots.
When the process started, I came out FOR Obama. Not against Hillary. Not against McCain. I was also even in the tank for Ron Paul, because I liked his ideas.
So I've compiled a few things that I would generally like to discuss, but I also just wanted to throw my opinion out in to the mix.
I'll start with how the Democrats can't seem to get over, much less realize, that they have a Democratic candidate who is tough on Terror for the first time.
Did I catch you?
I believe it to be true. I believe the democrats have the first ever candidate to be tough on terror. There are good reasons to believe this. For example:
Obama's tough talk on Pakistan
Obama: GOP tactics the reason bin Laden is still free
and of course...
Obama remarks regarding FISA
I feel an appeal to the center in a general election campaign is scientific to elections. It's its own process in which the candidate appeals to those voters who are independent, undecided, and even unsure if they're going to vote. There had to be a point in which the candidate breaks from their "base" to win over those undecideds. The base should stay, and depending on how much trust there is between the candidate and that base, support shouldn't fluctuate.
Well, now it appears support from the netroots is fluctuating.
I am curious as to why people do not believe he will reform the FISA law to be effective, maybe even enough to focus on terrorist attacks on America.
QUESTION: Do you really think Barack Obama wants to spy on YOU? Or is it more likely that Barack Obama wants to spy on terrorists.
Doesn't matter if you answer, just think about it.
What I really wanted to get to with this is: A poll at CNN's website
BLUF: 1115 registered voters asked, regardless of their choice for president, who is best at protecting the country from terrorism? 49% -- McCain, 32% -- Obama, 7% -- Unsure, 6% -- neither, 5% -- both, 1% -- other
It appears that McCain has the "terror" voting bloc locked down. Everyone thinks that John McCain will save the country from terrorist attacks.
--I Don't Like That-- You shouldn't either.
Because if the country wants to have the same plans it has had when Bush was president, then we may never catch the person who attacked us. But, if we were to use our spying intelligently, rather than at any drop of the hat, we just may catch the enemy.
John McCain, at this point, is using the national security issue as his walker. If Obama comes across as stronger on national security, McCain would not even be able to stand.
If we come out of this FISA vote as "Barack Obama is tough on terror" rather than "Barack Obama waves our rights" we can take McCain out. His campaign would go down faster than.... well, and old man without his walker.
Also, my ongoing conspiracy theory, which is a branch of this topic...
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS STORY??
Bush moves to take N. Korea off terrorism black list
I think it's a trap. A VERY bad bad trap. Obama even fell for it.
I just had nothing to do but to poke around with this issue for a while.
What prompted my journey was: Charlie Black says terrorist attack could help McCain
I had understood that McCain in 2000 struck a deal to let Bush go first so the Republicans could handle their agenda. The result was McCain would run now. It should've been obvious to a few. My father even told me, before the primaries ever started, McCain will be the nominee.
So I have no doubt that the same stooges who helped elect Bush are helping to elect McCain.
As my data showed above, McCain beats Obama on terrorism. They want to win. They need to win. So what do they do?
They make it possible for another strike.
Not only that, but they even got Obama to say it was a good move.
What happens in October when America is attacked? By a country who was said to have settled their differences by talking, precisely how the democratic nominee plans to conduct business?
I think they are setting up something terrible to win. But it's just me, and it's just a conspiracy.
So with all of this, all the little bits and pieces; shouldn't we, as his supporters, be saying that Barack Obama is stronger on terror than John McCain because he intends to capture the person who attacked our country, something the previous president, that administration, their plans, and their way of thinking could not do?!? Who would prefer the losing strategy that is currently in place for another 4 years? The strategy that has placed many Americans in danger because we are focusing on a region that is not connected to Osama bin Laden, the murderer of thousands? Do you want to stick to Iraq, or do you want to go and find bin Laden and put him to justice?

Fundraising was already getting low, and now some of you would rather he be at a disadvantage because you don't think national security is as important as civil liberties.
What good are civil liberties if there is someone out there planning on ending you, your life, and the people around you? We still have a job to do. It's to catch bin Laden. And Barack Obama is better than McCain on this, so he should be polling like it.
And now you can discuss.
