I will be following tonight's primaries from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It will be late here; but as I have done since Iowa, I will, with so much annoyance and disappointment follow, the CNN punditry. What? The best political team on TV?
But tonight this Ethiopian US Democratic Party supporter and a proud reader of dailykos, openleft, mydd and all good blogs of the left in America will be watching this "best political team" with a smile. Today is the start of healing the wounds in my party (even though I am not American). Since the end of February, everything about our nominee has been put on the table. But he has withered the storm. Polls show that after all these, he is leading McCain narrowly.
After tonight the focus will be on McCain. Everything from some of his personal integrity problems to his bad policies is going to see the light of the media. His negatives will increase. The so-called McCain democrats and independents will desert him.
Mark today. It is the day when the Democratic Party of America will turn into the Democratic Party of the world. Under Barack Obama and other emerging leaders, the democratic party will get back American respectability and leadership in the world. The only country which was founded on ideals and hope will anchor (not frustrate as George Bush has done) the hopes and aspirations of people all over the world.
I have always thought talks about the post-American world are premature. America knows how to correct its excesses and mend its problems. Today the Democratic Party voters make most of us, non-Americans, who have unwavering faith on America, feel proud. Sleepless but hopeful in Addis Ababa.
