Though other's have been talking this up, hope this one gets traction. We need it bad in Texas.
One of Bush's biggest supporters in the Senate is John Cornyn, R-Texas. As you are probably aware, Democrat Rick Noriega has challenged Cornyn and is drawing close in another race that will likely generate more momentum toward changing Texas back from Red to Blue.
Markos shared poll results on 5-8 and called them astounding:
TX-Sen: dKos poll confirms close Senate race.
Rick has a little 'change we can believe in' promised, too, saying his first
priority will be to bring the troops home from Iraq.
Melissa Noriega is once again stepping up to take his place while he goes on National Guard Duty. And she has great idea of how we can 'boot' Cornyn back to Texas.
Boots in Texas Need Filling
Senator Cornyn continues to be neck deep in Bush's bullshit. The Texas Observer's Jan Reid:
Though Noriega addresses many issues, the heart of his campaign is the mess that George W. Bush, neocon ideologues, and apologists like Cornyn have made of the war in Iraq. The challenger’s campaign logo, and metaphor, is a dusty pair of Army combat boots—a pointed distinction between himself and Cornyn. On seeing American hostages humiliated in Tehran by Iranian militants in 1979, when he was 21, Noriega joined the Guard as a private in a burst of conviction that he had to do something.
Rick Noriega is still serving in the National Guard to this day.
Kay Baily Hutchison is the other Texas Repug Senator, and a big McCain supporter. (I still kick myself for voting for her because she was a woman. Lesson learned, though.) Read in Political Cortex
Even after Hagee had revealed that New Orleans received the tragic jolt of Hurricane Katrina because the city was slated to stage a gay pride parade and that Catholicism represented the great whore, he continued to be defended by McCain and Texas U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
We really need a sea change in US Senate Representation for Texas, don't ya think?
Melissa's Great Idea
The "Fill Rick's Boots" campaign was inspired by Rick's wife, Melissa Noriega, who stepped in for Rick in the Texas State House while he was serving in Afghanistan with the National Guard after 9/11. Melissa will fill her husband's boots again, but this time she will be joined by prominent Texans.
Hope you agree that this is a great meme and that you will spread the news and even rec this diary. In my view, the Noriega's represents a much needed chance for Texas Dems and Obama, for that matter.
Wish I could find the link to the Michelle Obama speech I saw on C-Span early in the primary when she talked of the importance of being able to come back to supporters after Obama is elected in order to rally them behind the legislative agenda.
Barack Obama deserves a better chance for support from Texas in the Senate if he is elected!
Let's turn Texas back blue!
