I am in the military and I try to keep my politics out of where I work, but there are certain things that I hear from younger sailors that stop me in my tracks and I feel the need to "defend" Sen. Obama or my beliefs.
Today for instance I overheard one guy say that he thought Obama was a nice enough guy but he will not vote for a muslim. I told him that was not the case and he then tells me that because he spent two years in a school in the middle east that he had to be muslim. That was easy enough to defend... There is video on the internet of the school that he went to and the activities that happen at school ( no Jihad lessons) etc.
The one thing that I have trouble debating is the blind belief that most military personell have that Republicans are better for the military because we get better raises when there is a Republican president. I know that in '06 (?) Bush was not wanting to go from a 3.0 to a 3.5 that congress was wanting to raise to but other than I have not been able to find anything to use.
What I am looking for is advice or links that can be used when talking to pro-republican military that can show that democrats also have their best interests in mind and want to give raises as well. I know about the G.I. Bill which would be a great update to the old MGIB. There are quite a few of the senior type's that don't think of the G.I.Bill as a big incentive for them personally. I just need to find something to help back up my arguments that we liberals aren't bad people.
