...well, in Bakersfield, California, anyway. The local County Clerk, having waffled on whether or not her office would issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, was overruled by the County Counsel. He said specifically that such licenses would be issued.
Which led to her retaliatory action announced today. Although her office will comply with the recent California Supreme Court decision and hand out marriage licenses, they're doing away with the performance of ALL marriages at the courthouse.
Now, all this means is that you will have to find someone else to perform your marriage and can no longer have it performed down at the courthouse where you file the license. But a spiteful move, it seems.

Recent polls show the state favoring same-sex marriage (or at least not opposing it) by a slim margin.
Bakersfield and the surrounding Kern County is one of the reddest parts of the state, and coincidentally produces something like a fifth of the country's carrot crop. Which is actually germane, as it turns out. One of the larger carrot producers is putting $100,000 into the coffers of the group pushing a November Constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman only.

Ah, I was never that fond of carrots anyway...
