Hey, I just wanted to wonder out loud about something that really annoyed me today...
Apparently McShame compared Barack to Jimmy Carter...and the vast majority of Progressive media (not to mention the FauxNews crowd) found itself in a snit.
Well, I just wanted to take a minute and say, if President Barack is half the man President Carter is, then we will be in luck!
The frequent and rather unpleasant trashing of Jimmy Carter is something that has really annoyed me over the years. President Carter was a good President at a terrible time in this country's history. And he is a great man today!
He wasn't perfect, but who the hell is???
He has done wonderful things as an ex-President and I personally believe that he deserves more credit as a President than he receives. And it kills me that we (Progressives) seem to want to accept the Repug mantra that President Carter was a "failure".
Bullsh*t!!!
Jimmy Carter stood for many things. He took principled stands on many issues. He was green before green was cool. He believed in an honest peace in the middle east. He refused to nuke Iran regardless of how provoked. He had a reasonably balanced (almost) budget. He tried very hard to keep our economy stable without leveraging our childrens' future to other nations.
In total, he was, and is, a good man at a difficult time!
So, why would comparing Barack to this good man be something to run from? Seems to me that Jimmy Carter was Progressive before many Progressives were born! And I will say that I am proud to have voted for him (twice) and supported him when everyone else in the Democratic party couldn't run from him fast enough.
And in the end...he was right about almost everything! So there!!!
I really don't have much else to say tonight...
I just believe the President Carter deserves the thanks and respect of today's Progressive movement. I may not agree with him on everything he does today (particularly in the Middle East we are faced with at the moment), but for his day he was enlightened and honest and true to his beliefs.
And he is a man that Barack could do worse than emulate!
...There, I feel better now!
Thanks for listening!
