I am one of the whiners. Phil Gramm was talking about me.
This past week brought out the story of Cindy McCain's credit card debt. The fact that Cindy has rung up almost three quarters of a million dollars in debt in a short period of time.
Their credit card bills peaked between January 2007 and May 2008, during which time Cindy McCain charged as much as $500,000 in a single month on one American Express card and $250,000 on another, while one of their two dependent children had an AmEx card with a monthly balance as large as $50,000.
How can anyone so disconnected with the reality of life for the majority of Americans hope to connect with me as a voter.
As a teacher of close to twenty years the McCain's dependent children have a monthly balance larger than my annual income. I say this not as a complaint but as a reference point. How do you understand what it is like to live in a society where each paycheck is putting you a little further in the hole while an wealthy elite is telling you to just get over it.
Having left teaching for five years to work in the corporate world I understand too well how easy it is to make money and continue make more once you reach a certain point. I chose to return to teaching for reasons far beyond money.
I still have a mortgage, two children in college and bills to pay that get tougher to pay every month in the current economy.
So John McCain... Do you feel my pain? Care to have your wife rack up another fifteen years of my salary in a month?
Who is the elitist?
