McCain, who once sang in jest about bombing Iran, on Tuesday reacted to a report of rising U.S. cigarette exports to the Islamic Republic by saying it may be "a way of killing 'em."
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said: "McCain's crude remark on the indiscriminate killing of the Iranian nation not only testifies to his disturbed state of mind, but also to his warmongering approach to foreign policy."
In a statement quoted by the website of Iran's state Press TV satellite station, Hosseini added:
"We condemn such jokes and believe them to be inappropriate for a U.S. presidential candidate. It is most evident that jokes about genocide will not be tolerated by Iranians or Americans."
Will McCain be held accountable for this? It seems like Obama is responsible for what everyone else says, but McCain is able to freely talk shit.
In a NYT's article he even suggests he has some racists jokes in his pocket about Obama
When asked if he felt that it was more difficult to run against Mr. Obama because of the sensitivities of race, Mr. McCain responded wryly: "I’d like to make a joke, but I can’t."
"We are in a situation today where all words are parsed, all comments are diagnosed and looked at for whatever effect they might have," he said. "We have to feed the beast, the hourly cable shows, the instant news in the blogs and all that. That is just the situation that we’re in, and I’m not complaining about it, because that would be both foolish and a waste of time."
Mr. McCain went on to say that he did not consider running against Mr. Obama any more complicated than running against, say, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. "No, I have to base my approach to Senator Obama as one of respect," he said. "As long as I do that, then I don’t have to worry about any language I might use."
It's the start of a new week today, can one hope that the media will start doing its job? Those cookouts at McCain house must really be hittin' because this bias is becoming PAINFULLY obvious
