Most of you have, I'm sure, already seen the ludicrous New Yorker cover that is getting so much attention right now.
While I share the outrage over the "ironic" cartoon, I don't think outrage alone is enough to diffuse this mini-controversy. I think you fight fire with fire.
Therefore, I think we need some talented artists to come up with response covers. You know, what if National Review did a similar "ironic" cartoon of George W. Bush or John McCain?
If I had more artistic talent, I would do it myself. But if you have good caricature skills and can photoshop your image into a mock National Review or American Conservative cover, we could really use your help.
Here are two scenarios I'd like to see someone draw up:
- Cover of National Review, August 2004. Depicts George W. Bush at his ranch in summer of 2000. He is leaning across a boarding room table, shaking hands with Osama Bin Laden while Dick Cheney (sitting beside Bush) and Muhammad Atta (next to Bin Laden) look on. On a presentation board is schematics detailing how the WTC attacks of 9/11 will go down. Atta is holding American Airline plane tickets, Dick Cheney is holding ready-made Iraqi oil contracts. The "Bin Laden Determined to Strike America" memo is going through a shredder on the floor.
Isn't it so ironic, lambasting the silly left wing smears about Bush? I'm sure National Review is pinching themselves for not running this cover before the 2004 election.
- Cover of American Spectator, July 2008. John McCain is in the Oval Office, looking like a deranged warmongering madman. He has a metallic brain control device implanted on his head like Frankenstein-turned-Manchurian Candidate. His thumb is poised over the red button that will blow up the whole world. Standing behind him, an aging Vietnamese general, Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-Il look on in devilish delight. Kim Jong-Il holds a clunky remote control, with which he is controlling McCain's moves. Outside the window, the streets are in flames.
If you can draw such cover ready images, I think we'd all love to see them. You can either post them in your own diary here at DKos, or you can email them to me at oldmanmccain at gmail.com. I'll post the best ones in a future diary, if I receive some submissions.
Hope you can help!
