Thank heavens for small favors--Vernon Jones did not yet win the Democratic nomination for Senate in Georgia.

With 91% of the votes in, Jones leads with 40% of the vote. Jim Martin, a former state legislator who came into the race late at the behest of state Democratic leaders, has 35%. There were three other candidates splitting the rest of the vote.
Jones had a huge lead in campaign funds, but Martin was able to raise a lot of money fast; state Democrats see a (remote) opportunity to ride Obama's coattails in the fall, and knew a lot of Democrats would either hold their nose and vote for Chambliss, or not vote at all, if Jones were the candidate. Some might have been against Jones because he is black; the vast majority of his detractors accuse him of arrogance and mismanagement of one of the most populous counties in Georgia.
In all honesty, Chambliss will probably win no matter what, but it would really hurt to know you blew a chance to avenge Max Cleland.
