Disclaimer: I will support Obama no matter who he picks as his VP. My second choice is Jack Reed
In the last couple of weeks there has been a lot of buzz about who Obama will pick as his VP. A lot of names have been mentioned, but there has been one name that has been ignored.
I'm of course talking about Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, and here's why he would be the best choice for Obama:
- Experience: Although he is freshmen senator, Sherrod Brown has been in Congress since 1993 and has served in local Ohio politics since 1974. Brown's years of experience could help to deflect attacks on Obama's experience.
- Geography: Sherrod Brown was elected to the Senate with 56% of the vote, and is currently very well liked in Ohio. Back in 2004, Edwards couldn't win NC for Kerry because he wasn't terribly popular in NC. However, Brown's popularity in Ohio could seriously help Obama there.
- Demographics: If you take a look at the 2006 exit polls from Ohio-

Brown shows real strength with working class and rural voters. If Brown is put on the ticket than this could boost Obama in states like Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, Missouri, and Iowa.
- Reinforces Obama's messages: Putting Brown on the ticket could reinforce Obama's message of good judgment because like Obama, Brown was opposed to the Iraq War from the beginning. Also, Brown has shown good judgment in voting against NAFTA, CAFTA, and the PATRIOT Act. Picking Brown would also help amplify Obama's economic messages because Brown has done so work to create a fairer economy.
If you agree that an Obama/Brown ticket would be the best ticket, than please email Barack Obama and tell him to put Sherrod Brown on the ticket.
