I was pleased to see that John McCain will soon be able to use the "Internets" without the aid of his wife. The man who wants to be the leader of the free world will in no time have the ability to use the same technology already mastered by my 10 year old nephew and my 74 year old mother. After all, Senator McCain did graduate from the top 99.44% of his class at Annapolis (894/895). And while he already knows that you can accomplish vetting of VP candidates with "a Google", I wonder if he has yet to Google himself? Let's see what he would get if he Googled himself right now and see if there's anything there on the first page that might ignite that famous temper of his...
At the top of the page (we'll only look at one, I assume he can't find how to get to the second page of results), Google starts with "News Results for John McCain", and the first item is a little picture of Barack Obama next to a blurb from this article form the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
Not only is the author of that piece going to keep his seat on Cindy McCain's Straight Talk Jet, the Captain is going to give him a tour of the cockpit and an extra bag of peanuts.
Don't waste your time reading it, you know the drill by now. Here is the headline, try not to gag: "Candidates Find Some Accord on Afghanistan". Sure, Obama has the same position he set forth in his anti-war speech in October 2002, that we need to focus our attention on the fight against those who attacked us on 9/11, al Qaeda in Afghanistan, and a few days ago (5 1/2 years and 4,125 lives lost in Iraq later), John McCain is aboard. The headline seems to suggest they sat down at a table and hammered out this position together, at the same time. Amazing. Next...
That previous item was probably good for Johnny's blood pressure, but here comes trouble:
"Dobson Shifts Position, May Endorse McCain". Mmmm, thanks? Dobson is the evangelical from the Christian Right who said in no uncertain terms back in January of 2007 that he would never support McCain. Now he has this glowing endorsement (kind of, maybe):
"I never thought I would hear myself saying this," Dobson said in a radio broadcast to air Monday. "... While I am not endorsing Senator John McCain, the possibility is there that I might."
Can you feel the love?
Here's that full story from ABC:

Next is the link to the story about Phil Gramm taking his ball and going home, not wanting to play with all of us whiners anymore. As a recently unemployed person, I've got two words for you Phil: "Fuck off." Does that sound like whining?
End of the news, next up are the John McCain websites:
John McCain for President
John McCain's Senate Page (I wonder if it is updated with the same frequency that McCain attends votes?)
And John McCain's MySpace page! Out of curiosity I decided to check how many peeps he has - John McCain has 59,137 friends. By way of comparison, Barack Obama has 425,061! Wow, it's a good thing for him young people don't vote! Ron Paul has 128,665 friends (I thank the Lord every day that we're running against McCain and not him).
The next item is awesome, it is an unlabeled YouTube url, and if John McCain goes "a-Googling" some day soon he will be stumbling upon one of the many flip flop montages, "McCain vs. McCain", viewed over 820,000 times:
Next up is a link to WaPo's profile of John McCain (there is one for Obama too). One interesting feature is a little section called "Noteworthy Donors" and there is a picture of Jerry Bruckheimer, his name, and the amount. You click on "More Noteworthy Donors" and Jerry is sitting there all alone, the "Top Gun" producer with an apparent naval aviator fetish out 2,300 bucks, the cost of about 600 movie tickets at 1986 prices.
Here is the list of Obama's "Noteworthy Donors", a veritable "Who's Who" of all the cool kids in Hollywood (with Warren Buffet thrown in to remind people that not all rich businessmen are Republicans):
42 contributions found totaling $98,800. Showing 1-42.

And there are a couple of pretty cool links to websites showing McCain's voting record, followed by a section called "Blog posts about john mccain", with 3 items all of which are a few days old, one from CNN (the Czechoslovakia gaffe), another from AntiWar.org, and one from Ben Smith (yuck!)
A few links to books about John McCain and that's it. It looks like it will be safe for him to "get on himself" and do "a Google" on himself, but I would recommend he stay on the first page of results. I took a peek at page 2 and it all goes downhill for him there.
