The Gaffe-a-thon machine that has become John McCain just cancelled it's Press availability today and it's been noted by Politico with a nice detailed run down of just why...
He hasn't explained what he meant by juggling the timeline on the surge and Awakening; whether he meant that Obama was deliberately selling out the country; whether he shares his campaign's grievance with the press; or what he thinks of his staff's genocide-themed attack.
So while Barack Obama has the guts to go into Ramallah to discuss Isreal/Palestine, McCain can't stand a few hot questions from the press in Pennsylvania....
Remind me again whose the Brave War Hero? Looks like a Chickenhawk to me! Then again maybe there was fear that only 2 reporters would show up.
UPDATE: Just over the AP, McCain went to a Supermarket and took a few questions, where he addressed his misspeak on the Surge... and now apparently there was a Surge before there was a Surge
Republican John McCain is pushing back against Democratic criticism that he misstated the timing of the buildup of troops ordered by President Bush in early 2007. He says parts of the new strategy began months earlier.
The Arizona senator has told reporters during a stop at a super market in Bethlehem, Pa., that what the Bush administration calls "the surge" was actually "made up of a number of components." McCain says some components of the surge began before Bush ordered more U.S. troops into Iraq.
McCain says U.S. Col. Sean MacFarland started carrying out elements of a new counterinsurgency strategy as early as December 2006.
So which came first, the Surge or the Surge? And what Surge did McCain call for, and which Surge did he take credit for afterall? Was it this surge or that surge? Maybe he'll take questions tomorrow.
In any event, he now seems himself to discount the necessity of the troop build up as part of the Surge's success... this is really getting confusing, I know; and Now I know why the Press tends to only cover Obama, at least he's not a batshit crazy old dude
