This story caught my eye and made me smile for the activists’ innovative way of protesting climate change. Dan Glass actually had the opportunity to catch Prime Minister Brown's ear and sleeve. Before shaking the Prime Ministers' hand, he squeezed super-glue into his hand.
Glass was at 10 Downing Street to receive an award when he decided to use the moment as a protest against airport expansion and climate change.
"I just wanted a few more minutes of his time to get the message across, because he's not listening to communities affected by airport expansion," Glass told CNN on Wednesday.
Glass was able to capture 30 extra seconds of Brown's attention as the Prime Minister akwardly pulled himself away. Apparently, people in the audience clapped as Glass made his position clear.
Glass:
"He can shake off my arm, but he cannot shake away climate change," he added.
Thank goodness, this was not Vice President Cheney because he might have found himself faced with buckshot or worse-Gitmo. A spokesperson for Brown stated it was "lighthearted" incident. He was not arrested and was allowed to leave a little egg on PM Brown's face. There is a video interview of the protester on the CNN link.
His group, Plane Stupid, is devoted to non-violent protesting to demand change with the airline industry.
According to the group, some reasons to "ground" planes are:
- The airplane industry is the fastest growing cause of climate change
- Noise pollution
- Aviations contribution to the economy is overstated
The Plane Stupid website has some interesting photos and information for those interested in how the aviation industry is damaging our planet.
I say Good-on-ya Dan.
