John McCain is alleged to have said (I can't find an original source, so I'm using BarbinMD's diary)
I can only tell you, I will not discuss hypotheticals and I can’t.
From CNN (and other sources), today he's going to go on TV and discuss a convenient hypothetical. Referring to Senator Obama's decision to not visit hospital-bound troops in Germany, AP reports that McCain will say:
"if I had been told by the Pentagon that I couldn't visit those troops, and I was there and wanted to be there, I guarantee you, there would have been a seismic event."
Well, Senator McCain, make it reality.
Those troops are still in that hospital, and they are just one short flight away. Go to Germany and visit them. Create that seismic event. Surely, given your determination, logistical issues should not be an impediment. If you don't make that visit, then what does that say about your support of our troops?
Also, I hope that liberals and conservatives agree that our soldiers should not be used as political props, so the trip should be made quietly, with perhaps a brief statement afterwards that you had persevered, visited the hospital-bound servicemen and women in Germany, and offered your sympathy and raised their morale and that of those serving us in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Without taking action, to me you sound like an adolescent boy speaking from the safety and convenience of being far removed from some event. "If I had been only there, I would have... "
Let's see some action here, Senator McCain.
