Ok, so some chicken littles were going on and on in another diary about how Obama's new ad about McCain and the "same old politics" isn't either though enough or a week late.
Well, according to Ben Smith over at The Politico , says this ad has actually been running in 11 states for the past couple of days, it's just that nobody in the blogosphere had seen it on Youtube, therefor we all thought, Obama must not be responding or is a wimp.
This is what Obama means when he says "there will be no drama in my campaign"
I already responded to the accusation that this ad isn't strong enough, pointing to the latest Moveon ad as a better counter attack to McCain.
The Moveon ad is just bad for TV, even if it's filled with truth (and it is). The music is tacky and cheep, and it has been used in tons of movie trailers before, and in anime fan videos on youtube. To much text for the average voter, is just a static bombardment of images and frames. The Obama ad is a lot more effective in just putting down McCain, as if Obama was saying "this attack ad is a piece of shit, i won't waste your time, and i have real solutions". That is what Obama's response is and has always been:
No drama, and no more of that same old politics. It's not an ideological driven campaign remember, and while we here in the blogoshphere respond quickly (and justly) to attack ads in a very partisan and passion driven manner, we need to remember that the ones who are acting like pathetic chicken littles are the McCain campaign. Obama is running on not wasting the voters time with dirt politics of old.
That does NOT mean that he will not answer forcefully to smears. No. It's just that he knows when attacks are petty and not worth responding to in the moment, and can wait. He learned that especially after the Rev. Wright scandal.
This past week, with all the press coverage and great Berlin speech, there was little need to draw more attention to the stupid attack ads that even some in the media said were just plain stupid, the same with the "obama goes to the gym but not the troops" ad. It was pathetic. Andrea Michtell (who by the looks of it, has cooled down after she was snubbed by the Obama campaign in Iraq), just plainly said that the ad was a lie.
Remember to keep your cool and wait for the right moment to strike. The moment will either be right away or after a couple of days or weeks. It all depends.
