This morning, I turned on CNN. I only had it on for approximately a half an hour. During that half hour, CNN was showing some video clips of our military soldiers from Iraq.
I thought that was very cool as I watched all of them say "hi" and send their love to their family and friends. I know it's quite a special way for them to be heard this fourth of July.
But as I watched, I noticed a special pattern happening...
Each soldier who was filmed would say something like, "While you celebrate Democracy and Independence Day there, I'm fighting for Democracy this fourth of July over here..."
I thought about the Pentagon's Propaganda Program.
I thought about the video the President made with a group of soldiers who had been hand picked to appear with him, and were later seen practicing their lines.
I remembered all the times the soldiers who have come home against the war have been harassed and arrested. I know some IVAW members who were arrested at the Pentagon for speaking out against the "Pentagon's Christian Embassy" and were arrested for setting their materials about the nuclear waste being used in our weapons.
I remember the IWAV members who are standing up and standing with General Clark right now.
And I can't help wondering about all those military personnel on CNN today who are repeating the same sentence. "I'm fighting over here..." And I can't help wondering why CNN isn't showing any videos of the soldiers who want the Occupation to end.
I know they're out there. I've met them.
So is CNN catapulting the propaganda by using our soldiers as 'Entertainment fodder"?
That is just so wrong!
