That's right! Today is George W. Bush's 62nd birthday. Laura sent me a letter a while back to remind me that "this is the last birthday he will celebrate in the White House." All I can say to that is, thank God for small favors! It's a crying shame such a small, weak, pitiful excuse for a leader as George W. Bush was allowed to celebrate any birthdays in our White House, let alone 8 of them.

Laura's letter said she needed my help to make George's birthday "truly meaningful," and I'd like to oblige. She asked me to sign and return a card for George, along with a $62 dollar donation to the RNC. The inscription on the card started with "Thank you for your service and dedication to our country" and, much as I hate to disappoint Laura, I can't tell a lie that big, so the card remains unsent.
Sending $62 (or even more) to the RNC is a non-starter too, but I've come up with a plan to make George's 62nd birthday truly meaningful. Here it is:
I'm sending a $62 contribution to the DNC to mark the occasion of W's last birthday in Our House. My personal message to George is "Now get out, and don't let the door hit you in the ass when you leave." The NSA guys will forward that to him if he doesn't read this blog on his birthday.
To take this meaningful plan one step further, I'm encouraging each of you to donate as well -- $62, or $6.20, or even $620 -- to the DNC, the DCCC, the DSCC or the Democratic candidate of your choice. The DNC is my preference because I love the 50 State Strategy and have a soft spot for Gov. Howard Dean, but pick any Democratic cause you like and give what you can.
The point here is to make a meaningful gift so that George knows we're thinking of him today -- and so next year doesn't find John McCain celebrating his 73rd birthday in Our House.
