I picked up the Sunday Dayton Daily News today before pumping $25 of a $3.99 a gallon tab. I took a minute to look at the front page for a bit. Along with the stories about trade and how it has hurt this ecconomy and a side note on the country's mood regarding the current situation we all face was a very interesting piece: "Precinct is wary about its choices"
You can read here
Then the sub-story shows how the people of New Lebanon is torn between both candidates.
"I'm not really thrilled with McCain. We're back to the lesser of two evils, I guess."
More of it here too
Lesser of two evils?
The ecconomy is going in the tank and this is the best way to view this years election: the lesser of two evils??
I agree with those here who don't take a big lead and a Democratic tsunami for granted. I know we will need to work for every last vote out there to convince people the need of a President Obama in the times we are living in. But to frame this election in the viewpoint of "lesser of two evils" is offensive to me.
Looking in deeper into the paper I find a nearly full page on A19 of the DDN talking about how desperate the times are and how this past Fourth of July has left a lot of Americans wondering if there is any point to celebrating let alone hoping to survive another year under the duress of rising gas prices, housing, employment, natural disasters and Iraq/Afghanistan.
Lesser of two evils? Try no brainer!
Our situation as a country is so dire I don't think this years election cannot be simply placed in the traditional viewpoint of the past three decades since Watergate. The view shouldn't be "lesser of the two" but "more of the same or a new course". If nothing else this shows there is a lot of work to do to convince the unconvinced about how important the stakes are and why they should throw their vote to Sen. Obama.
But the phrase still angers me.
How in God's name do you think Obama's viewpoint and the DNC's plans is "evil" because the overall viewpoint could be a huge help to our nation in the long run and improve our standing in the world? Why do people think Obama is evil? I really want to ask them "did you not see the eight part--eight year--mini-series I did? It sucked didn't it?" And yet they will flock to McCain cause of this viewpoint of "maverick". Try son of maniac if you will.
Then for Condi Rice to say she was "proud" of her work during the Iraq War; to say Cheney/Bush wants to strike Iran militarily; to say the ecconomy is well for them but hell on Earth this is a good policy? It's bankrupting our nation!
I need to reconnect with the Obama people, get off my lazy behind, and start focusing on showing folks this election is more than "lesser evils" but changing the collision course with disaster we've been on for eight years. Because instead of just venting here I need to join other Americans out there to change the concept and make VERY sure we don't have a repeat of the last two election cycles.
This election it is on me...you...all of us.
