After the Obama, FISA vote the "leaders" of the netroots community launched into a tirade filled with so much emotion than facts, that it makes the GOP look sane. Basically Obama voting for FISA is bad becuase it lets telecoms off the hook. Inhabitiants of the netroots took wind of this and echoed the sentiments of the netroots "leaders"..
So I figured maybe its just a bunch of people who hadnt really read the bill in its entirety, like me, so here http://majorityleader.house.gov/...
So I wake up to the morning shows before work to see whats going on, and on every damn cable and basic channel the message is clear, "Is Obama losing his base", "Obama facing netroot revolt", "Bloggers angry at Obama", "Can Obama keep his base".
These were the headlines I saw in some form or another this morning and all throughout the day on the Cable news. Every hour, for 8 hours, on MSNBC or CNN featured a segment entitled "is Obama losing the base" or something like that.
You have given GOP clips and clips of ammo to use against Obama in the general from appearing on talk shows to slam Obama. You have given Hillary former supporters who were slowly coming on board a reason not to. You have given John McCain's campaign staff a plethora of quotes and ad ideas slamming Obama for the FISA vote to use against him.
You act as if the Obama candidacy is a creation of the netroots, as if the man couldnt give a speech or design policy until 2007. The same way Ned Lamont was championed on here as a result of the Netroots alone. Where did that get him? A democratic primary win, a general loss, and Lieberman teabagging any Republican who will listen. By the way, anyone seen Ned Lamont?
Fact is you were wrong and Senator Obama is right. Obama proved he was listening to you guys when he responded on MyBO, and still you wanted to slam him. Some say they now view him as a regular pol, but I dont know any regular pol who responds to supporters who donate less than 100G.
FISA may seem like a HUGE issue to the netroots but with the economy, gas, healthcare, infrastructure, wars, the environment all in the tank, you pick FISA to make a stand? FISA?
FISA has no tangible immediate impact on my life or yours. I dont wake up every morning and think, "Damn, I hope they redo that FISA bill". I worry about putting gas in my car to make it to work that day. Will today be the day where Landing Lane bridge collapses? I hope my brother in Afghansitan makes it just one more day. FISA is far from my and most Americans thoughts
There is a reason the Democrats are known as the party that constantly grabs defeat from the jaws of victory. There is a reason that 3 of the last 10 elections have gone Democratic even in the rosiest of circumstances. There is a reason why if McCain wins, the netroots will bemoan the gullibilty of the American voter on choosing McCain while ignoring the fact they were so gullible and easily baited into a no win discussion about FISA and the Obama vote.
