Looking at the election landscape as it exists today, I have come to a conclusion that has been gnawing at the back of my mind for awhile. I probably knew it was true before, but hey, denial is a powerful thing, you know. My epiphany was this - The Democratic Party is the worst political party - ever.
Now before you go all sea cucumber and spill your guts on me, or compare and contrast the bigotry of the "Know-Nothing" Party, let me make myself clear. It's not their platform, it's not their goals, it's not the people who vote for them. Rather, I am talking about it in the purest political sense - forming a group with the intent of getting like minded members elected to public office. Democrats don't seem to know that that little D after their name means that they are supposed to be part of a team working towards a political goal, not just a unshaped group of people that happed to park in the same section of the parking lot before a ball game.
In this election we have a candidate who is bright, funny, a charismatic speaker, and seems to have some genuine insight into the events that are going on in this world. Additionally, he is African American, which would be a historic event if he were to assume the presidency in a nation where people of his color once served in bondage. Sure, he's got some shortcomings, but there seems to be a lot of meat on that bone if you are looking for something new after 8 years of Barbara's little man tearing the world to shreds.
But at a time when the juggernaut that is the Republican party seems to be at an all time low, guess who has stepped in to mess with the chances of the Democrats taking the White House? You guessed it, it's the Democrats.
You don't even have to pick one Demcrat, there are several to choose from:
New on the list is Russ Feingold. No I usually like ol' Russ, and when it comes to progressives, he seems to be the real deal. However, even Russ couldn't help but twisting the knife a little, stating that:
- McCain is the real deal;
- A genuine maverick;
- Fun to be around; and
- Calls 'em like he sees 'em.
Funny, considering McCain has reversed his stance on the Religious Right, drilling, taxes, and immigration to name a few. Which part of that is him calling 'em like he sees 'em, Russ? I don't know if you know this, but he is running against your party for the highest office in the land, and his positions are contrary to almost everything you stand for. Why would you take time out to contradict what your candidate and party have spent millions debunking?
While I did not have a problem with you calling out Obama on FISA and campaign reform based upon your stances on those issues, I just wish you were as quick with your compliments of Obama as you were with your criticisms. The "I support Obama" etc was weak at the end and almost came off as a disclaimer. At the very least, realize that you are a senator in a battleground state and have at least enough sense to STFU. How many more commercials for McCain do you have to be in b/f you get it?
Who's next, well its Bob Kerry
of Nebraska, come on down!
Again we have another McCain lover in our midst who praises McCain as being a "known commodity" and able to handle crisis. Meanwhile, Obama is an "unknown" and according to previous statements, attended a madrassa. Finally, Kerrey only hopes Obama can win b/c he is the only one who can speak to the large number of underachieving blacks.
Thanks for all your work Bob. If there is a cool spot in Hell, hey, I hope you get it.
Then we move on over to the Empire State, where we get the dynamic duo of Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton
Hillary and her people just keep stoking that fire. Heck, having a roll call at the convention to appease the Hillbots is cathartic. We should give them all the rope they need to hang us. Remember how cathartic it was when you threw gasoline all over Florida and Michigan for personal gain even though your campaign played a big part in stripping their delegates?
It is also wonderful to have your former employers like Wolfson on the air feeding your meme that the primary was stolen from b/c of John Edwards covered up affair. Another attack on the legitimacy of the primary within weeks of the convention. Isn't that special.
Schumer has come out and offered his sagacity on winning presidential elections. We all remember when Schumer won the election for the Presidency, right? Feeding into Clinton (now Republican) stereotypes, Schumer again hit on Obama being weak and needing to attack. Hey Chucky, I just got a crazy thought, why don't you attack the Republicans? He's your candidate, they're your opposition, and you have no risk. Oh, I see you only want to give public advice to make him seem inexperienced, naive and foolish. It's not advice that you yourself would actually follow.
Finally, we get to Ms. Wasserman-Schultz who has placed herself philosophically in an interesting predicament. She is a member of the committee which seeks to get Democrats elected in her state, but has refused to give any help to Dems which are running against her current Republican colleagues out of some form of civility/courtesy/stupidity/suicide. Umm....these are guys that have been calling you and your party cowards and traitors for the past seven years, they have put the US in a tremendous pickle and you don't want to be seen as opposing them? During a time of Republican backlash? What did you think a committee to elect Democrats was for?
While I loathe Republican brutality, dishonesty and slime, it also kills me that the Dems greatest enemey seems to be themselves. I am beginning to think that they enjoy the suffering and humiliation, much like "The Gimp" from Pulp Fiction. The problem is, they are taking us along for the ride.
