The New York Times today has a front page story on a new book, Obama Nation, which is apparently filled with factual errors and is by the same guy that wrote an anti-Kerry book 4 years ago.

So I have not read the book, so don't look for a review here. But I am curious about the claim to be a #1 bestseller. The Times vaguely refers to "bulk sales."
So I checked on amazon.com.
Here's the ad on amazon:

List price $28.00 -- Current price $15.50 (which is 45% off)
So, the question is, how does a book become a #1 bestseller? Do they charge, say a few pennies per book for "bulk sales" that a partisan will buy but no one will ever read? Does anyone actually audit that the sale was made?
It seems that once something makes it onto a bestseller list, that in itself will spur sales. But I would think a true #1 bestseller would not be selling at 45% off within 2 weeks of its release date. Or is the economy under the Republicans so bad that no one can afford to buy even the most popular books any more at anything close to full price?
