OK, I know he's had his senior moments the past couple of years. But maybe we can turn that into an advantage.
I mentioned elsewhere the possibility that Obama might be looking for a one-term VP candidate to set up a second-term run for someone like Schweitzer or Warner. Someone thought maybe I was hinting at Reid. Which I wasn't, but it got me to thinking. (A dangerous pasttime, I know...)
Reid's obviously not at his best as Majority Leader. He was better, IMHO, as minority leader.
He's pro-life, taking that particular sting away from the Republicans.
He'd not be expected, generating a lot of buzz.
He'd help Obama (I think) in carrying Nevada.
And best of all, it would remove him from his current leadership position, freeing up that slot for, oh, I don't know, some New York senator maybe.
As VP Reid would be Senate President, where his parliamentary knowledge would be helpful. And we retain his vote that way at least part of the time, as he would be able to vote to break ties. And we're going to see a lot of ties unless the Democrats pull a LOT of Senate seats. In which case, loss of the Nevada Senate seat wouldn't matter so much.
Downside is we lose a sitting Democratic senator. But won't we be losing Reid sometime soon anyway?
