First of all Pat Buchanan just blew the neocons and McCain out of the water:

This situation in Georgia has arisen because the victors in the Cold War made the exact same mistake as the victors in WW1. Read William Manchester's excellent Churchill biographies.
When WW1 ended huge reparations were imposed on Germany. There was no way the defeated and destroyed nation could pay. Churchill vigorously opposed the reparations as he had the foresight to see that they would humiliate the Germans and revive nationalism, ultimately leading to a second world war - he was right. His oft quoted maxim was "magnanimous in victory, defiant in defeat".
In the aftermath of the Cold War we have made the same mistake. Trying to enlarge NATO and bring it to Russia's borders, installing missiles and radar in former Soviet countries. No wonder the Russians love Putin. This is not rocket science but is beyond McCain, who I am now convinced is a complete fake with a quite limited intellect. I believe many Republicans see this. Indeed I think this is the reason McCain cannot break out of the low 40s in polls - a fact which nobody is commenting on. Without "leaners" he is at 41% in today's Rasmussen.
Just to get back to Buchanan. He made a statement on the Today show sometime ago that McCain would "make Cheney look like Gandhi". MoveOn should spend all it's money on an ad about that.
