This Sunday, the Cincinnati Reds will host "Faith Day," sponsored by the Creation Museum.
For those of you who don't know, the Creation Museum is a young-Earth wingnut wonder, located near Cincinnati. It's a slick, $27 million dollar "history" museum made up of crazy, Flintstone-style facts.
Seriously, when you walk through the front door, there's a friggin' triceratops with a saddle ("Dragon's Den," containing more such scenes, just opened) ... and the usual creationist pseudoscience about Noah, floods, etc. It's tricky, clever, and far from innocent.
And the Cincinnati Reds are now affiliated with it.
Now, religious days at ballparks make me a little uncomfortable, but I'm a big fan of freedom of speech, association, etc. I'm glad we live in a country where religious organizations can sponsor things just like anyone else.
I'm not, however, pleased about the fact that Major League Baseball and the Cincinnati Reds have allowed this to happen. It's wildly inappropriate to have an MLB team, its PR staff and announcers fluffing pseudoscience, intolerance, and general falsehood to the general public (I'm watching the game right now, and it's happening).
It's important that we make our voice heard here -- let the Reds know what you think here:
