Dr Rick Warren, Pastor of Saddleback Church in CA will be featured on Larry King on CNN, Monday August 18 at 6 PST and 9EST.
The purpose of this diary is to get people organized to call and write in for this event and push back on Saddleback-gate, Cone of Silence-gate etc.
There are a number of questions that have emerged from the so-called "Saddleback Civil Forum," a forum promoted as a two-hour event, designed to help promote civil discourse in politics and society.
As reported by Saddleback's own Press release the event which was attended by nearly 5,000 church members in the main auditorium and remote overflow venues, began with Warren posing questions first to Sen. Obama, as determined by a coin toss, after which the two candidates met on stage and embraced in one of their last appearances prior to their respective conventions. The second half of the program featured the same questions directed to Sen. McCain by Warren, who stressed that the candidate had been placed "under a cone of silence" prior to his turn on stage.
As has been reported in several Kos diaries, many questions have emerged from this event.
One is whether or not McCain was actually encased in a "cone of silence" like the event and press release from Dr. Warren's own PR claimed, and if not, how come the Pastor's own assertions keep claiming this was the truth.
The second related issue is whether or not John McCain actually cheated and heard any of the questions ahead of time (or if both candidates were in fact coached with questions prior to their appearance).
Lastly, the veracity and changing nature of John McCain's Cross in the Sand/Dirt story has been raised as well.
Larry King's call in number is 1-800-676-2100. You need to call AHEAD of time!
Email questions can be sent to: http://www.cnn.com/... Email hours ahead.
This is a great opportunity for Kos folks to channel ire in a public way.
Remember when being screened by the Producer to keep your question clear and CONCISE. One sentence, no more than two. This is TV. SHort attention span theatre rules apply!!!!
Also, a number of members can hide questions so that if you are screened by a producer and they tell you they don't like your question or you KNOW they won't like your question, you tell them you want to ask Pastor Warren about how he was called to Christ (or something equally innocuous like how much you loved his book) and then when you are on the air, you can switch the question (but be sure it's a short question!).
Okay, folks, if anyone else is interested, lets see if there can be any people powered follow-up on Saddleback-gate.
Edit #1: Going to the airwaves and asking the questions the media refuses to is important because anytime the media gets close to doing their job, they are threatened by right wing thugs. http://www.politico.com/... It's imperative that MSM understands that a large population of citizens demanding truth is stronger than a thug.
