DIGG IT!
I should preface this by saying that I do respect McCain's military service and his being held as a POW. Too bad he doesn't appear to respect it anymore.
So, first we discover that being held as a Prisoner of War automatically qualifies you to be President of the United States.
Then, we're told that being held as a Prisoner of War makes you incapable of cheating on your wife.
Now, we discover that being held as a Prisoner of War makes you incapable of lying or cheating in ANY way, shape or form about ANYTHING:
The matter is of interest because Mr. McCain, who followed Mr. Obama’s hourlong appearance in the forum, was asked virtually the same questions as Mr. Obama. Mr. McCain’s performance was well received, raising speculation among some viewers, especially supporters of Mr. Obama, that he was not as isolated during the Obama interview as Mr. Warren implied.
Nicolle Wallace, a spokeswoman for Mr. McCain, said on Sunday night that Mr. McCain had not heard the broadcast of the event while in his motorcade and heard none of the questions.
"The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous," Ms. Wallace said.
Wow.
Evidently being a POW also makes you invulnerable to fire, cold and bullets. It gives you the ability to fly, to breathe in the vacuum of space, to control the weather with your mind and to walk through walls.
It turns you into Superman.
It makes you incapable of accepting illegal bribes.
It makes jokes you tell about innocent teenage girls being ugly or women being raped and beaten by gorillas sound hilarious.
So what lesson can I learn from this revelation?
Apparently, if I get mugged on the street, that automatically qualifies me to become Chief of Police.
If I suffer a heart attack, that qualifies me to run the cardiac surgery department at John Hopkins.
Amazing stuff, really. Do tell me more.
UPDATE: Title changed to reflect the larger theme that the McCain campaign is attempting to push: "P.O.W." is the new "9/11" as the answer to ANY criticism.
Illegal wiretapping? 9/11 P.O.W.
Corruption in government? 9/11 P.O.W.
Women's right to control their own bodies? 9/11 P.O.W.
Illegal invasion of sovereign nations? 9/11 P.O.W.
Torture? 9/11 P.O.W.
(bonus: "I was tortured, therefore it's now OK for me to torture others").
Being a P.O.W. has apparently gone from being something terrible that happened to a person to being the end-all, be-all justification for anything.
