I've been thinking a lot about the priorities of people on this site. And before you leave the diary and commence to tell your friends how much of a concern troll I am, I don't mean that in an accusatory way. I just think it's amazing how wide a variety of people there are here on the Great Orange Satan, and how many different things get accomplished here. My question is, what draws you. What particular issue, or issues, really cranks you're engine?
In the midst of the election and, especially right now, the VP speculation, it's sometimes easy to forget that most of the people reading, diarying, and commenting here have a particular set of reasons why they want a progressive majority in Congress and a progressive President in the White House. Most everyone here wants to elect Democrats. My question is why?
I, for one, am particularly motivated by defense issues. There aren't a whole lot of things that upset me more then the fact that Osama bin Laden has been allowed to sit back and laugh at America while we enjoy (if your last name is Bush, that is) our boondoggle in Iraq. I joined the army in 2002 to help catch him. Instead I went to Iraq. Twice.
So that's my top priority. I want to elect leaders who will bring some sense of logic to our foreign policy. What about you? What matters most?
And, for the record, just because someone doesn't have the same issues at the top of their list, doesn't mean they don't care about your particular issue. Sometimes we forget that. The list of things that are important to me is a long one. Frankly, I don't have time to work as hard as I'd like to on all of the issues that matter to me. I've got to choose one or two, and assume that while I'm talking about foriegn policy, one of you is talking about women's rights or marriage equality or protecting the environment or reining in the executive branch or equal pay or protecting our unions or, well, you get the point.
