So my wife's just gone to bed after we've watched some episodes from season 1 of Six Feet Under. All those who recommended that show back in my last diary here I REALLY want to thank you.
I have to splash a little bit of some potential cold water onto the big Joe Biden hoopla going on right now on dKos based upon an experience that I had this afternoon.
My boss is a 50 something woman Ph.D. cell biologist who was born and raised in New Jersey. She is the daughter of a union electrician. She is a liberal who had no personal preference in the primary. She was OK with Obama as the nominee, but would have been equally at ease with Hillary. She thought Hillary should be Obama's VP pick, but would be OK with someone else if it was a man. She feels that if Obama picked a woman OTHER than Hillary, she would take it as a personal insult (I won't go into the details of that right here). We were talking this afternoon in my office that I share with several others about stuff and I happened to check dKos for any news on the VP pick. She asked what I was checking up on and I told here I was checking to see if the Obama's VP pick had been announced.
Without ANY prompting she went into a bit of a rant. (paraphrasing here) "I can't believe Obama is thinking of picking JOE BIDEN. If he picks him I am going to give serious consideration to voting for McCain."
I was, to say the least, taken a little aback. "Why?"
"I can't stand that guy." she replied. "He's got a big mouth, he's just a big egomaniac and he plagiarized some speeches back before his run for the president in '88."
"But I read somewhere that he was cleared of the plagiarism charge" I replied (meaning I read it here on dKos). "Oh please", she replied. "You know he just pulled some strings. Why the HELL is Obama thinking of picking JOE BIDEN for his VP" So remember this is paraphrased. This isn't EXACTLY what she said, but it's pretty close.
Now, my self, I'm OK with Biden. He's not my first choice, or my second choice. But I am OK with him as VP. But if my boss's reaction is typical of the average, non-blog reading public I'm wondering if we could have some real problems with Joe Biden as the VP pick.
I don't know. I guess I'm going to not get all googly-eyed over the thought of an Obama/Biden ticket right at the moment. Remember, we live in a bit of a bubble here at dKos. Not everyone perceives the world through the same lens and given my boss's reaction this afternoon, I hope there aren't many others out there who are potential Obama voters but who REALLY do not like Joe Biden.
