So, John McCain has reminded us all that there was a time in his life when he didn't have seven kitchen tables to choose to eat at - during the 5 1/2 years he spent in a POW camp.
Now, of course, everyone is up in arms about that, saying that he uses his POW status as an excuse for everything - listening to the questions ahead of time at Saddleback, owning more houses than most people have rooms, etc.
Well, let me remind you all that there was a time when John McCain couldn't simply wave everything away by referring to his 5 1/2 in a POW camp - during his 5 1/2 years in a POW camp.
It is simply beyond the pale to criticize a man - who spent 5 1/2 years as a POW, may I remind you - for using his 5 1/2 years as a POW as some sort of "get out of jail free" card. To tell a man what he can and cannot refer to in his past violates everything that we stand for as Americans and proves that those blaspheming John McCain would rather win an election than a war. Shameful.
Democrats are always the first to attack someone for their military service. Republicans know that a man who has seen combat and worked his way up through the Senate to the candidacy for President deserves at least basic respect, and anyone who would try to cheapen or call into question the honorable service of a military man who wishes to continue to serve his country as President should be ashamed to call themselves American. Americans have a proud history of honoring their soldiers, particularly those who meet with calamity while serving their nation. Anyone who would try to impugn a soldier for the time he spent at war simply to win an election is the kind of despicable creature who shouldn't even be allowed to vote in the first place. A Republican (i.e. True American) would never, under any circumstances, do something as low and deplorable as that against a veteran.
Remember that the next time John McCain refers to his horrors in a POW camp. This is a man who has Given in a way that no other American ever has, and he deserves nothing but our respect. A man who was a POW for 5 1/2 years would not bring up his 5 1/2 years as a POW unless it was appropriate.
Now of course you'll complain about him using his status as a POW to deflect criticism of using his status as a POW to deflect criticism of using his status as a POW. Because that's what Democrats do - try to confuse everyone because they know they can't win on the issues.
