This will probably be brief, but can anyone else remember less substantive coverage of a presidential convention than what is being offered by the networks on this first night of coverage?
Maybe I just wasn't paying attention in 2004, but I seriously don't remember it being this bad.
It's bad enough that no longer are the public airwaves broadcasting these public forums paid for in part by public taxpayer dollars to help inform them about whom to vote.
But now with these things relegated to the cable networks these talking heads can't even go through a single 10-minute speech without breaking away to blather on with thoughts interesting only to them and talking over the speakers they are in Denver to cover. It's simply maddening.
And it's not just Fox News that is doing this with them broadcasting Sean Hannity interviewing Karl Rove as their coverage of the DNC. It's all the networks hyperventilating over a manufactured Clinton psychodrama and all this other crap rather any actual issue.
Thank God for C-Span allowing me to see the stirring Jesse Jackson Jr. speech earlier this evening, the reasoned explanation for why Republicans would be drawn to Obama from Jim Leach and the heartwarming, heartfelt call to America to support change from Sen. Claire McCaskill's children.
God forbid any of the cable news nets show these things and let their viewers THINK.
