Since the Obama surrogates are caught up mostly in extolling our nominee's wonderful ability to bring people together and get things done, I thought it might be time to remind everyone exactly why we can't elect John McCain.
It's simple.
John McCain is Dangerous.
Everyone in Washington knows about his temper, outbursts, penchant for cursing and making hotheaded decisions, but Obama's surrogates seem totally unwilling to pursue this line of attack. Must we do it for them?
Repeat after me: John McCain is Dangerous. He's dangerous for our economy, which cannot afford 4 more years of economic meltdown. And he's dangerous for our security--he'd make Dick Cheney look like Mahatma Gandhi.
First, get your talking-points straight:
Now is not the time for a President who can't even control his own temper, much less his own party. I mean, even Republicans who have known him for years are afraid to have him anywhere near the button.
or how about this:
We're talking about a man that Pat Buchanan--PAT BUCHANAN--said would make Dick Cheney look like Mahatma Gandhi. This is a dangerous choice and Americans need to know about John McCain's temper!
Second, get your facts straight:
Senator Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi) has known John McCain for 30 years. Here's what he had to say about a McCain Presidency.
"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."
Third, apply it to today's situation.
John McCain is so frightening, even those who supported George Bush's wrong-headed war in Iraq are warning that McCain would be worse than Bush:
John McCain is making it quite clear what his foreign policy will be like: tilting sharply away from the greater realism of Bush's second term toward the abstract moralism, fear-mongering and aggression of the first. Not just four more years - but four more years like Bush's first term.
We're already fighting two wars. Bush and McCain are ratcheting up for a third war against Iran. Our standing with our allies across the world has been severely damaged by the kind of cowboy diplomacy that John McCain has promised to continue.
He wouldn't be just more of the same--he'd be worse.
Can we afford another four years of unnecessary wars?
What will the price of gas be if we invade Iran?
How will we control nuclear weapons from getting into the hands of terrorists if we piss off the Russians?
This is the best antidote to the fear-mongering from Camp McCain. Sure, it's fear-mongering of a sort, but it has something they don't--the truth.
